A 14-inch machine that reportedly weighs about 798 g — for comparison, most 14-inch laptops sit between 1.2 and 1.6 kg, and Huawei's own MateBook X Pro is around 980 g. If the figure holds, it undercuts a 13-inch MacBook Air by roughly 35% while giving you a larger screen.

It runs HarmonyOS, not Windows

This is the most important thing to understand before ordering. The MateBook Pro S runs HarmonyOS for PC, Huawei's own operating system. It is not Windows and it is not macOS, so Windows software does not install on it, and there is no Google Play Store.

What you get instead is a large and growing catalogue of HarmonyOS applications, Huawei's own office and productivity suite, and anything that runs in a web browser. Interface and keyboard support English. HarmonyOS is fast and efficient on Kirin silicon — which is a large part of how Huawei gets the battery life and the fanless-class thermals into a body this thin — and it connects seamlessly with Huawei phones and tablets.

So the question is what your daily software looks like. If you work in a browser, in Huawei's ecosystem, or you want an ultraportable second machine for travel and note-taking, it is a compelling piece of hardware and nothing else is this light. If a specific Windows application is essential to your job, this is not the machine for that.
